IFS-Informed EMDR

Counseling Connection

At Renew Refocus Counseling, we integrate IFS-Informed EMDR within Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counseling, offering deep healing for Complex PTSD, trauma, addiction, and emotional wounds.

What is IFS-Informed EMDR? IFS (Internal Family Systems) helps clients understand their inner “parts” formed in response to life experiences. Protectors, Managers, Firefighters, and Exiles all play roles in how we cope. IFS-Informed EMDR works with these parts to release burdens and restore balance, integrating faith-based support for spiritual and emotional healing.

Healing Through an IFS-Informed Approach Instead of bypassing protective parts to heal wounded Exiles, we engage them with understanding. Self-energy—the core of inner wisdom—guides the process, fostering self-compassion and resilience. Our approach integrates biblical principles to support lasting transformation.

How EMDR Works EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones—to reprocess trauma. This reduces emotional distress, allowing clients to gain new perspectives and healing. Combined with IFS and faith-based counseling, EMDR helps process trauma with compassion and spiritual grounding.

Effective for Addiction Recovery IFS-Informed EMDR is highly effective in treating addictions, including substance abuse (alcohol, drugs, nicotine), behavioral addictions (gambling, food, shopping, gaming, pornography), and compulsive patterns. By addressing the underlying trauma fueling these behaviors, clients develop healthier coping mechanisms rooted in Self-energy rather than avoidance. Faith-based counseling provides additional strength for recovery.

Support for Couples and Children For couples, this approach helps identify protective patterns in conflict, fostering deeper connection and healthier communication. For children, IFS-Informed EMDR provides a gentle way to process difficult experiences, build emotional resilience, and cultivate a strong sense of self.

When Part of You Wants to Change, and Part of You Doesn’t Inner conflict is natural—one part of you may seek healing while another resists change. In IFS-Informed EMDR, we honor these conflicts with compassion, helping clients move forward in a way that feels safe and sustainable.

Healing Religious Trauma For those with religious trauma, we offer a gentle, Christ-centered approach to healing. We acknowledge deep wounds while providing a path to renewed faith and wholeness. Christ is the ultimate healer, bringing true restoration and peace.
